My Bedford Rascal Camper Van Interior
My Bedford Rascal Camper Van Interior
I bought my Bedford Rascal in the summer of 2019, at a glance it looks great, but it needs a lot of work to make it stand up to my standards. The interior is the biggest part that needs work, it could do with all of the headliner being replaced to something more suitable which looks brighter and a bit more bespoke looking.
The camper doesn’t have a toilet on board, but there is nowhere to put one anyway. I have a portapotty/toilet which I can put into a tent outside, same with the shower. However, I do have a sink in here with running water, which is pumped from a tank in the cupboard below which is a bonus, useful for having a quick wash, brushing teeth in the morning and washing the dishes.
It comes with a grill and hob so you can book inside which is amazing for a camper so small as this, and also comprises of a breakfast bar and full sized double bed which I can fit in comfortably at 6ft tall. I used to have a TV in the camper too but I removed it till a later date when I find a better place to store it, any ideas would be welcome.
Driving the Bedford Rascal can be difficult on longer runs because of the cramped cab space, but it holds it’s own on the road managing 50 mph consistently even up the hills. It’s a 800cc motor which provides all it needs for power, but I would like to upgrade this further in the future. The handling has been recently improved by changing all 4 tyres to brand new ones, as the previous ones must have been at least 10 years old and were perishing.
The pickup is detachable from the romahome which is awesome because, if you want to use the pickup only, you can remove the romahome within a few minutes with a couple of stands and drive away. However the back end becomes a little light without the camper on the back!
