Nigella sativa (black-caraway) also known as nigella or kalonji), often called black cumin is an annual flowering plant in the family Ranunculaceae, native to south and southwest Asia.
Nigella sativa grows to 20–30 cm (7.9–11.8 in) tall, with finely divided, linear (but not thread-like) leaves. The flowers are delicate, and usually colored pale blue and white, with five to ten petals.
The black caraway fruit is a large and inflated capsule composed of three to seven united follicles, each containing numerous seeds which are used as spice, sometimes as a replacement for black cumin (Bunium bulbocastanum).
In English, Nigella sativa and its seed are variously called black-caraway, black-cumin, fennel-flower, nigella, nutmeg-flower, Roman-coriander, and kalonji (from Hindi).
Black seed and black caraway may also refer to Bunium persicum.
The seeds of Nigella sativa are used as a spice in Indian and Middle Eastern cuisines. The black seeds taste like a combination of onions, black pepper and oregano. They have a pungent bitter taste and smell.
The dry-roasted nigella seeds flavor curries, vegetables and pulses. It can be used as a "pepper" in recipes with pod fruit, vegetables, salads and poultry.
In some cultures, the black seeds are used to flavor bread products. It is also used as part of the spice mixture panch phoron (meaning a mixture of five spices) and by itself in many recipes in Bengali cuisine and most recognizably in naan bread. Nigella is also used in Armenian string cheese, a braided string cheese called majdouleh or majdouli in the Middle East.

Black seed oil has been shown to have antioxidant properties. These can help relieve inflammation inside the body and on the skin. Herbs and supplements are not monitored by the FDA. Research and use reputable brands.
Reducing high blood pressure: Taking black cumin seed extract for two months has been shown to reduce high blood pressure in people whose blood pressure is mildly elevated.
Reducing high cholesterol: Taking black seed oil has been shown to reduce high cholesterol. It’s high in healthy fatty acids that can help you maintain healthier cholesterol levels. Examples of these fatty acids include linoleic acids and oleic acid. The levels of the oils can vary depending on where the black seeds are grown. People may also see results when consuming the crushed seeds.

Birkenstock Orthopädie GmbH & Co. KG is a German shoe manufacturer headquartered in Neustadt (Wied), Germany. The company sells Birkenstocks, a German brand of sandals, and other shoes notable for their contoured cork and rubber footbeds (soles), which conform somewhat to the shape of their wearers' feet.
According to BoF, the German company’s global revenue tripled to $800 million between 2012 and 2016. In 2017 alone, the company reportedly sold 25 million pairs of shoes.

Although they have been called “ugly sandals,” these thick-strapped, cork-soled sandals have developed a cult following.

“Birks” first broke onto the high fashion scene in 2012, when Celine’s then-creative director Pheobe Philo sent the brand’s models down the runway in them.
Celine matched its Spring 2013 collection to fur-lined versions of the Birkenstock Arizona sandals, and we haven’t stopped seeing these shoes since.
Since the Celine debut, Birkenstock has teamed up with goth/grunge designer Rick Owens, Italian luxury label Valentino, and American clothing brand Opening Ceremony on several successful collaborations.

The soles of almost of every Birkenstock should have the unique hourglass/bowtie/pinched-in-oval shape pattern or a variation of it. Some of the shapes should say “Birk” on sandals and clogs, while the Birkenstock logo may be printed on in blue on boots and athletic shoes. Now, there are many variations of Birkenstock soles, so these are just a few general guidelines. The biggest thing to be wary of is soles that have no Birkenstock branding of any kind.
