If you have been searching on the internet for Lacoste Polos you are at riske of buying a fake and poorly made replica. Since this shirt has recently become extremely popular it is profiatable for people to make and buy fakes because of the price of the real shirts. The goal of this article is to better prepare you to -Purchase your Lacoste shirt with Confidence-

THE BUTTONS
The buttons are one of the signature aspects of the Lacoste shirt. All genuine Lacoste shirts use Mother of Pearl buttons. Since Mother of Pearl (MOP) is produced by mother nature, no two buttons are alike. Also, on the darker Lacoste shirts the buttons will be a darker MOP. The genuine Laacoste shirts will only have two holes in their buttons.

Another way to spot a fake Lacoste shrit is by checking to see if there is a crocodile on the button. These buttons will be made of plastice and will have two holes in them sewn horizontally. Teh buttons on real Lacoste shirts are sewn vertically. Even though this may not be appealing, one sure fire way to tell if the button is MOP is to bite it. You will be able to tell if it is MOP by doing this.

TAGS
One of the easiest ways to tell if a Lacoste is real is by taking a look at the sizing tags on the collar. A real Lacoste will only have the size in numbers and will have two tags, one saying size and that it is Lacoste and another saying where it was made. Below there is a picuter of a real price tag vs. a fake one. A fake tag will have 8558, 166, egge on the tag - if any one of those are on the tag then it is a fake. You will also see on the care tag of a real Lacoste the words DEVANLAY written on it. The good fake ones may have this on their tag but they have stars by the side of the writing.

Can you spot the one real Lacoste tag from the above three pictures? Answer- the one on the left - The difference between the one on the left and the one on the right is the croc's eyse. On the real Lacoste shirts the croc has eyes. If your croc has no eyes he is a fake (as well as being blind poor thing!)

EMBROIDERY
Now this is the best way to spot a fake. All fakes have the croc in line with the split on the polo, while the placement does vary by a couple of centimeters, but not be a couple of inches. Any fake will have writing on the arm (although vintage ones may differ) and the croc will have Lacoste embroidered on it. All genuine men's Lacoste will have the croc sewn on via a patch, the women's version is embroidered directly on.



Notice that on the fake croc (right) there is terrible stitching around the croc and also that the weave on the shirt looks horrible. Most fakes do not even try to replicate the weave on the original shirts.

Have two (2) buttons that are Mother of Pearls and feel cold to the touch

Number below that reads RN87651-CA 16998 and it is written in forest green
Alligator is about 1 1/4" long and 3/4" tall
Size is written as a number between 3 to 9 in red on the top left corner of the tag
Have a inner tag on the bottom right side of the polo
Striped Polos

Have three (3) buttons
Designed in France
Number below that reads RN 87651-CA 16998 and is written in forest green
Alligator is about 1" long and 12" tall
Size is writeen as a number between 3 to 9 in red on the top left corner of the tag
Have an inner tag on the the bottom right size of the polo
Are longer than plain polos.
