A one night redemption camp in the rain after the failed attempt to camp on the mountain a few days ago. A few questions answered in this one including my name. And how I went from Trading Platform design to Investment Banking Fixed Income and Equity Trading to Investing My Own Money in myself. And finally how I became a Youtuber. Hope you enjoy!

Someone asked to list the banks I worked for: Baring Securities, Credit Suisse, Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, Lehman Brothers and Mizuho Securities.

Once you’ve mastered the art of top roping, it’s time to learn how to lead belay. The difference with lead belaying is that rather than pulling slack out of the system, you need to give the leader slack as he or she climbs. In this REI Expert Advice video, we demonstrate how to get the climber to the first bolt, where to stand while you belay, how to give slack as your partner climbs and clips, and how to catch a fall.

No dehydrator? No problem! Here’s an easy-prep, minimal waste, plant-based meal plan that can be adapted for more days – or varied diets – on the trail. I’ll show you how to pack and make three full meals: Trail Mix Oatmeal, Peanut Noodles, and Couscous with Lentils. Let’s cook! Disclaimer: I am not a chef, a cook, or a nutritionist. I just like food. Eat at your own risk.

Oatmeal: Small Stasher Bag
1 cup Quick Rolled Oats
2 tbsp Brown Sugar
¼ tsp Cinnamon

Trail Mix: Small Stasher Bag
1 cup Trail Mix of choice
OR
¼ cup Pepitas
¼ cup Dried Cranberries
¼ cup Chocolate Chunks
¼ cup Coconut Flakes

Pasta: Medium Stasher Bag
1.5 cup Penne Pasta

Snack Bag: Medium Stasher Bag
12 p. Dried Mango
8 p. Dried Ginger
1 cup Banana Chips
¼ cup Peanuts or Cashews (raw, roasted, or salted – up to you!)

Couscous: Medium Stasher Bag
2 cup Couscous, dry

Lentils and Vegetables: Medium Stasher Bag
1 cup Lentils, Red Split or Quick Cooking
1 cup Dried Vegetables (veggies only, no beans)
1 tbsp Curry Powder of choice
1 tsp Red Chili Flakes

Peanut Butter Powder: 2oz Nalgene
¼ cup Peanut Butter Powder

Oil: 2oz Nalgene
¼ cup Olive or Avocado Oil

Soy Sauce: 2oz Nalgene
¼ cup Tamari, Soy Sauce, or Liquid Aminos

(opt.) Crispy Onion: 2oz Nalgene
¼ cup Crispy onion, fried onion, or other topping

Morning:
1. Add ¾ cup pasta and 1.5 – 2 cups of water (more if you like thinner oatmeal or a big mug of coffee) to a pot. Bring to a boil, reduce heat, and let simmer for 8 minutes or until pasta is al dente.
2. Turn off heat and strain water out of pot and into coffee cup. Leave the noods in the pot and cover to stay warm.
3. OATMEAL: Add ½ cup of oatmeal and ½ - 1 cup of the hot starch water to a bowl with a lid. Cover, and let sit for 5 minutes or until oats have absorbed all the water. Add instant coffee or tea to the remaining water in your cup and enjoy some caffeine while you wait!
4. Once oats are cooked, add trail mix. I tend to add around ¼ cup of mix-ins.
5. Eat, enjoy, and camp clean your bowl.
6. NOODLES: Add cooked noodles, 2 tbsp powdered peanut butter and 2 tbsp soy sauce to your bowl. Mix. Add oil to taste – around 1 tbsp. OPT: add crispy onions and peanuts. If you have red pepper flakes, add these too. Cover and store until lunch.

Evening:
1. Bring 2 cups water and ½ cup of lentil and vegetable mix to a boil. Cover, and simmer for 5 – 7 minutes or until lentils are mostly cooked. If you have a sensitive stomach or want softer lentils, cook for longer – up to 15 minutes.
2. Turn off heat and add ½ cup of couscous. Stir, cover, and wait 10 minutes. Crack a beer!
3. Once couscous has cooked, add oil to taste. Eat and enjoy!

Every snowboarder gets some base damage at some point. Big holes that expose the core usually need to be repaired at a shop, but smaller scrapes and gouges can easily be fixed at home. We’ll show you how to prep your base, fill the scrapes with P-Tex and smooth out the base when you’re done. Shop REI’s selection of snowboard tuning equipment at http://www.rei.com/c/snowboard-tuning-and-tools.

Transcript:
Everyone gets some base damage at some point. Big holes that expose the core usually need to be repaired by a shop equipped to weld in new base material, but smaller scrapes and gouges can easily be fixed at home. You'll need clean towels, base cleaner, rubbing alcohol, a metal scraper and a P-tex candle. You might also need a wire brush and a razor blade.
The repair will work best on a clean base. Start by using your scraper to remove any extra base material from around the gouge. Stubborn spots may need a razor. Brush off any dirt, debris or built up wax. As always, make sure you brush and scrape from tip to tail. P-tex won't stick well to a wax base so use base cleaner around the scrape to remove wax from the area. After a couple minutes the base cleaner will have done its job and cleared the base of wax. Now you can use rubbing alcohol and a cleaning towel to remove residual base cleaner.
Light the P-tex candle over your scraper to keep it from dripping on your work area. As it heats you may need to relight it a couple times until it's hot enough to drip regularly. Hold the candle as close as possible to the gouge without letting it touch. If it's to high the P-tex will be dirtier and may splash off your base. If it's to close the flame may burn your base. Let it drip in until the hole is completely filled. You can use your metal scraper to sharpen the candle when it starts to droop, and of course, never cross a lit candle over your skin. When all the gouges are filled, stub out the candle on your scraper and set it aside to cool. Keep in mind that it will stay hot for quite a while. It's normal for the repair to look bumpy and uneven at this point.
Once the base is cooled you can use a metal scraper to remove the excess P-tex for a smooth, flush finish. You can also check for any low spots that you may have missed. Just repeat the process to fill them in. To recap, clean the base and remove extra base material from around the gouge. Drip P-tex into the hole and allow it to cool completely. Once it's cooled, use a metal scraper to remove extra P-tex and create a smooth finish. Once the base is finished, it's time to give it a good wax.

I tried to do an entire backpacking trip for $200 or less! Over the course of ten years working in the outdoor industry, I’ve had access to affordable, high-quality gear and been able to test and ask questions from the experts around me before choosing to buy. I’m so grateful for this experience, but I know that for many people, backpacking and hiking can be quite an investment. I challenged myself to start from square one, acquire all my backpacking gear and take a trip - all for under $200! If you have an REI near you where you can rent gear, I highly recommend that. $200 is enough to take an amazing backpacking trip with great gear if you have access to REI rentals, but for this challenge I decided to see how far I could get without renting anything. Watch the video to see how that turned out... :) I hope you enjoy my $200 budget backpacking adventure!

Right after the film, join us for a live Q&A with biologist Caitlin Davis and director Charles Post: https://youtu.be/epd2jowGGCo

Peering out her tall bedroom windows to the highway below, Caitlin Davis dreamed of life as an ecologist. When she saw mountains for the first time on a backpacking trip after college, her fate was sealed. Today, in Idaho’s demanding sagebrush country, the raptor biologist spends her days rappelling into golden eagle nests studying how human impact affects their reproduction and productivity.
