My name is Lauren Barnes. I'm with the American Association of Snowboard Instructors. Leapers are a great tactic to use for soft snow, steeps and ungroomed soft terrain. The main focus of a leaper is to be changing edges off of the ground. So as I initiate my turn, I'm going to get nice and low and I'm going to flex my ankles, knees and hips. As I'm getting ready to change edges, I'm going to pop up and extend hard so my snowboard comes up off of the snow. That's when I'm going to change my edges. As my new edge comes in contact with the snow I'm going to flex down to make for a nice soft landing so my snowboard can ride out smoothly and I don't put too much impact on my body. I'm going to continue that flex down into the new turn so I'm ready to initiate the next one.

2 Friends, 4,700 miles, 1 mission: Pick up trash! The short film, 'Leave It Better' documents Seth Orme and Abby Taylor’s bike ride across America. Their route took them from Georgia to Washington State, including a circuit of stops at National Forests, scenic areas, campgrounds, etc., hosting trash cleanups and conservation-theme clinics as they rode.

For 5 months, their goal was to explore the country, meet people, spread the word on 'Packing It Out,' and continue their message of environmental stewardship. At each destination, whether alone or with a group, Orme and Taylor cleaned up trash, totaling more than 2,100 pounds over the course of the trip.

"Chạy bộ trên bãi biển chắc chắn là một hoạt động bổ ích", và "khác hẳn với việc chạy trên vỉa hè hay những con đường có bề mặt tương đối bằng phẳng", Vasileff chia sẻ.

Đối với những người mới bắt đầu hoạt động này, cát có thể là một thách thức bởi bề mặt không bằng phẳng và liên tục dịch chuyển dưới chân. "Khi bạn đẩy người về trước, một phần lực đẩy sẽ mất tác dụng do sự dịch chuyển của cát", Vasileff nói. "Vì thế, thật khó để mà phăng phăng tiến về phía trước như khi chạy trên đường phố hay vỉa hè."

Bởi vì cát có "khả năng hấp thụ chấn động tốt", cho nên có thể giúp làm giảm những tác động tiêu cực lên cơ thể trong suốt thời gian tập luyện cường độ cao, theo một nghiên cứu công bố trên Tạp chí Khoa học Thể thao (năm 2013). Nhờ đó, hoạt động tập luyện trên cát có tiềm năng giúp làm "giảm nguy cơ chấn thương cơ bắp và gây ra ít đau nhức hơn", các nhà khoa học đã viết như vậy trong bài đánh giá.

Cũng theo một nghiên cứu khác, công bố trên Tạp chí Khoa học thể thao Châu u (năm 2017), các nhà khoa học đã phát hiện thấy rằng cơ thể phụ nữ sản sinh ra ít myoglobin (một loại protein có thể là dấu hiệu của tình trạng viêm cơ) trong máu ít hơn sau khi chạy trên cát, so với việc chạy trên cỏ. Kết quả trên cho thấy việc vận động trên các bề mặt mềm mại, chẳng hạn như cát, có thể làm giảm nguy cơ chấn thương cơ bắp.
