How to Train for Backpacking || REI

As rewarding as backpacking can be, it also demands a lot from your body. Spend some time prepping before your trip and you’re more likely to end each trail day happily fatigued, rather than miserably sore and exhausted. The eight exercises shown by Dr. Sam in this video are designed to target areas that bear the brunt of the load on the trail and to increase strength in your core and major leg muscles. You’ll also increase endurance in those same muscle groups.

In this video, we’ll show you the following exercises:
Jump Squats—0:40
Hip Roll—1:14
Step Up—2:00
Heel Down—2:40
Single-Leg Deadlift—3:32
Squat Curl Overhead Press—4:16
Lift—4:56
Side Plank with Hip Dip—5:31
